ok first off, im not gay. this is me not coming out of the closet to secretly express my gayness to the word. trust me, i am 100% hetero-sexual. case in point, ashley. everytime i think about her, when im not thinkn about how much i love her im thinkin about...well....u get the idea. anyway back to the subject.
i was reading this article on human origins for my social science homework that i have yet to finish and is due in 4 hours and 45 minutes, but i came on this startingly realization. well ill give yall a quik vocab lesson before i get into it.
the word sexual has several meanings; pertaining to sex or the sexes (i.e. gender--male and female), involving sexual reproduction, and of course orientation or distinction.
the word homo literally translates as man, not human. human comes from the latin derivative humanus.
so when u put both of those together( homo and sexual that is) u get a literal translation "pertaining to sex [with] man" now heres the interesting part.
the prefix homo does not distinguish between sexes. in fact it categorizes all humans, both male and female, as being of the species of man (homo sapiens). so if u take theliteral sense of the word homosexual, u get "sex with man" not "sex with a man.
so it left me wondering: "if thats the case, shouldnt all people who are sexually attracted to another person be considered homosexuals?" is homosexual just another way to cast out those who are different, similar to racial slurs?
i understand that it helps like minded people identify with one another as do the words "black" "hispanic" and the like do for their respective groups. but, knowing this, should we all classify ourselves as homosexuals? not necessarily "queer" but identifying with the love of man?
just a thought.
